I think it is suffocation, just in this episode they're trying not to kill them, Souji says they can't kill anyone so they break the gold before it takes their lives.
Yeah it seems the foil is defying physics and continuity, alas. If in previous episodes people grasped at it and tried to pull it off (and it did not break either), this episode the paper seems to be easily broken by a little tap. I think at this point it is safe to say they botched making it consistent. UNLESS this will be explained later. Just for the sake of respect for their own in-story coherency.
I think that gold might be used to cover tracks.
The way it works requires preparation, and it seems to behave like a foil at first, however after plastering it to a human face it does not only sticks to their face tightly but also seems to harden for a certain amount of time until it shatters on it's own.
Panic + current confrontational situation they suddenly find themselves in probably add to making the suffocation process go faster.
From my understanding it probably has som toxins, since there isn't really pure gold without some other chemicals on that time of history (I think).
Gold is toxic like any other metal-based substance that is inhaled
Doesn't seem to be inhaled, just blocking the respiratory system. You wouldn't die from breathing some gold either. Also you can eat small quantity of gold and you will be fine.
True, a little doesn't kill but I think it blocks pores and it's inhaled so it'd make it more dangerous... Still, until we know more these are all guesses
Gold is a metal and the gold foil isn't pure gold but a compound structure kinda seems to work like paper masse so the adhesive could be toxic maybe. Still when one one reaches for the face when they are getting suffocated it stretches the imagination.
I think it absorbs liquid and "loses its former form"
real native chinese speakers instead of getting japanese VA (well except for Master Liu, but pronunciation not bad) to speak chinese unlike the other animes... level of immersion, exceptional
Now if they'd just hire me to do the engrish parts
sometimes, i think its deliberate... the VA for Carol in Tomo-chan actually speaks fluent English (american accent) on her youtube vids, yet in one of the earlier eps, Carol was speaking in Engrish rather than English... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Now that you say that, it seems like at some point someone posted on here that it's because it more or less sounds right in Japan because they all take Engrish in school or something.*
*BTW not really making fun of it in a malign way. If I was visiting Japan trying to ask for directions the reaction would no doubt be, "I can barely make out what you're saying but what does the Student Council President have to do with anything?"
Lol I like how Souji's acting like a tsundere, he's happy Kurima's still the same samurai he's always been so that he doesn't earn enough income to move out of his room. I'm glad Souji's warmed up further to Kurima.
Lol that torturer thought he was going to have a fun time with Kurima, but Kurima is not the expressive kind so the torture session must have been frustrating.
Authentic Qing dynasty apparel, manchu hairstyle and speaking mandarin. The level of historical detail is rare in any anime. The only exception is Master Liu. Why doesn't he have the manchu hairstyle? Especially since he is a chinese government official.
plus the clear references on when the british took over east india (now indonesia) from the dutch which means this set in 1811. impeccable
He is that girl who break fashion rule to make a statement😂
Going to Chinatown in anime>>>>going to Chinatown in movies!!! I think beside last episode this is the second best one and definitely still making thing interesting. But I have to wonder, who the he** are they really working for lol, like I know they do anything at a price, but still they have to have a side.
Doc really is big compared to others and I'm not even talking echi, like he really is just a different kind of human XD
The Chong dude casually whipping a cutlass from the shop's backyard had me... surprised. Like, very orthodox depiction of Chinatowns. I don't claim to know how authentic it is, but what I see here is what I have seen practically everywhere else.
Well since we do have an anime church in this show, I think it's probably safe to assume who wound up stealing all of the opium. I'm assuming basically the entire thing was a set up from the beginning.
Freaking drug wars...nothing changes...
I don't think too many Japanese drug lords and Triad guys wear those type of clothes anymore... so there is that change.
Yuen seems to be pleasantly surprised that others are actually willing to go save Kurima, as well as at Raizo willingly going to the den of the, possibly, nastiest diaspora in the history of diasporas.
While I have initially suggested Yuen is willing to sacrifice the whole outfit, it is possible that the twist will be that Yuen reconsiders, in the light of them bonding and becoming more humane from interacting with Kurima. Right now it seems it could go both ways... or neither. Because with the introduction of the foreign trade company, which seems to be the ultimate or penultimate big bad, there might be no room for a proper personal struggle inside the outfit.
Like: they might be more humane than they thought about themselves compared with those Chinese and the Trading Co?
Or rather Yuen sees potential in them of becoming proper human beings and taking a decent trade, like Kurima does with art.
I actually just went to read the wiki of this anime and... WTF NIO IS A MALE?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?! (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
He is intersex. While he is technically male he seems to have a female physique (notably chest).
I'm pretty sure he's both... last episode is the pure proof
Always saw him as a boy with mental problems acting, trained or groomed to be feminine. I think he has all the boy parts and reason he's hiding chest is only due to having the fem touch in mind.
Nio (鳰)Voiced by: Hisako Kanemoto[5] (Japanese); Hayden Daviau[6] (English)A small, androgynous boy whose angelic face hides a cruel and
calculating mind. His favorite method of assassination involves using
kite strings covered in tiny glass shards.
member requiem of the rose king from last year? richard was intesex too
Mal info has him listed as A small, androgynous boy
well , they won't outright put the "surprise" in the character description , since the reveal will lose any shock value if they did so.
finally the plot is moving
Just before the OP with that hand holding... He's going to get both his arms chopped off at some point isn't he...
finally can figure out the plot
the chinese voices was good
Good episode
im so confused,
bro is majestic
no revenging this episode. better luck next time.
I was like ohh sheet hes about to approach the china men and whoop some arse then he gets 1 shot by a karate chop lol
He wasn't really going there to fight so much as to suicide by gangster. He's still really wacked out about being the reason innocent people died and them being so close and personal really did a number on his self worth.
did yall hear about what neo's kite was doing in india not to long ago? she needs to keep that thing ona tighter leash.
Woah, the VAs were using perfect Chinese. Some animes I seen used incomprehensible words and incorrect phrasing, which I have to rely on english sub to understand the context.
The anime director and manga artist did a good job from costume design (making the main characters look cool), historical background, choice of VA and the warm color scheme. It supposed to be mystery and violence but the animation makes you relax like a slice of life anime. The plot is easy to understand but not generic (!!!). This anime reminds me of Woodpecker Detective's Office and Tsukumogami Kashimasu, which are good watch too.
I'm curious... Has nobody considered the possibility that Yuen's dilemma is the revenge he has to carry out on Kurima ?
When he met with Kurima, he stated that they had already been paid before the father-in-law's death. If that was the case, there was no need for a second (?) coin to be handed over to Yuen when the father-in-law was dying...
I just wander why he keeps that golden coin at hand you know... Whose revenge is it ?
you are correct. He is using him since he makes things easier at times but at some point he must either finish the job or... well, can he even return a dead man's gold?
EIC took over Jakarta from the Dutch?? this mean the setting is in 1811 for sure. damn that's a big hint
chinese and their drug syndicate.....all illegal drug dealers deserve to die horrible death
6 episodes in I'm still wondering how that gold foil works. ^^;
I thought it was simple suffocation at first, but the reaction of the victim when it breaks seems to say otherwise.
